In addition to the APC riders, Rebekah Hogan from Glenorie Pony Club accepted the invitation extended to our Zone and other local clubs to join us.

The competition was divided into three groups: one led group and two unled groups DRESSAGE: The first event of the day was Dressage, which was conducted in a 20 x 40 metre arena (for the benefit of Mums legs!) and judged by Anna Wright.

The Led Group went first, using the test developed by Helen last year which proved very successful.

The unled groups followed, using EFA Prep1 (2006) in the same 20 x 40 metre arena.

Anna provided valuable comments and feedback to all riders for use future events.

CROSS COUNTRY (Obstacle Course).

Similar to 2008, a very challenging and exciting obstacle course was developed by Helen, with several of the obstacles built by Helen‟s father 9thank you – particularly the wonderful letter box.) The aim of the obstacle course was to provide a challenge for the horse and rider, yet not posing the safety risks associated with fixed jumps, etc.

The obstacle course incorporated a bridge 9quite challenging for pony and rider) trotting poles, barrels, bending poles, a sig sag path to negotiate, a gate to pass through, a letter box with a flag which the rider had to lower and a set of hay bales to pass through (without stopping for a snack!) before coming to a stop in a box made of trotting poles.

Overall, very challenging for young riders and short ponies who must walk through a canyon of hay without grazing along the way! SHOWJUMPING.

The final event of the day was showjumping.

A course of seven cross-rail jumps (set at the 2nd cup hole – approx 20cm) was used which proved a challenge to smaller ponies who found it a challenge to negotiate in a slow and controlled manner for the benefit of their rider, yet not knocking over the pole with their knee as they tried to step over.

Taller horses weren‟t presented with the knee problem, but needed to avoid the temptation of cantering, as the course was set at walk-trot.
