He was sold as a weanling and later re sold to be a child’s pony.

He was a lovely looking little pony when we went to see him so we bought him to a view of putting him in harness, as we had his half brother that was already an established harness pony.

Well we got a bit of a shock when we got him home and started breaking him in to the cart, he knew every trick under the sun to avoid doing what he was asked.

He just didn’t count on Stephen’s persistence and my patience.

He was put into long reins with Buttons but they didn’t match as a pair so we put him in with Goulburn River Bonny Lad, a stallion we had just recently purchased.

This combination worked well together and we had a few years of wonderful pleasure driving with these two ponies.

I had the bright idea of putting Logan into singles so I could drive him at the local shows, this worked very well and he was my idea of a perfect harness pony.

We won a few ribbons at every show we went to and a lot of people would have liked to take him home.

So Logan was well known around the area as a great led in gelding, a wonderful child’s pony and a very handy harness pony.

Although he was always a very successful show pony 2006 was his year to shine, we started with the DPSA breed show where he won Best Exhibit of the show, this is the first and so far the only time a gelding has won this award.

It was a very proud moment for us and also for Audrey who had bred him.

At the same show he also won Champion pony under saddle, Champion in Harness, Stephen was awarded Supreme Rider, Champion whip and to top it off he was awarded Hi Point pony of the show.

This is an award which he won at every Dartmoor breed show he competed at His next show was Marburg where he went Supreme Dartmoor and again at Ipswich show where he was Supreme Dartmoor pony and then went onto become Supreme APSB pony of the show.

Since then Logan went on to teach young and old aspiring drivers how to drive a pony in harness.

He was very handy at novelties in harness and competed a couple years with a young driver at the Ipswich show which has a lot of classes for harness and fierce competition.

Stephen’s father Gordon, who was badly burned in a fire accident took to driving Logan as the local shows in the gentleman whip classes, Logan was so good for him and he was placed in every class they went in, Gordon was in his late sixties when he learnt to drive.

In the last few years Stephen put Logan in with Charlie, one of our home bred ponies and they were very successful as a pair, we had many a pleasure drive with family and friends with these two ponies pulling the cart.

Gordon and Ellen, one of our junior drivers also learnt to drive a pair with these two ponies.

Logan was always the stabilising influence out of the two. Unfortunately in early 2010 Logan was diagnosed with a collapsed soft palette which caused us to retire him as he wasn’t comfortable working in the cart anymore.

He was just as happy in retirement always looking for love and affection from any visitor, he could con a pat out of.

Our granddaughter loved to just go up to him and give him cuddles on the legs as that was as far as she could reach.

Earlier this year Logan suffered a bout of founder after the long period of rain we had in over the summer.

He turned septic and the very hard decision was made to put him to sleep as he was no longer enjoying life as he should.

This was a very hard decision to make as Logan had been one of those very special ponies who only come into your life once or if you are lucky maybe twice.

He was sixteen years old and we had owned and loved him for eight of those years, I feel very lucky to have owned such a pony.

Logan was truly a great ambassador for the Dartmoor breed here in Queensland and he lives on in the hearts and memories of all the people he touched. Home of Gar-Won Trident Breeders of Quality Shetlands.
