CLASS DESCRIPTIONS AND RULES BREED CLASSES APPALOOSA PONY, APPALOOSA HORSE AND APPALOOSA SPORT HORSE CLASSES Ponies or Horses shall enter the ring in a clockwise direction at the walk.

Ponies or Horses will be lined up at the discretion of the judge.

Entries shall be judged individually standing, and also at a walk and trot on the lead.

Ponies or Horses should stand squarely and naturally and are not to be stretched.

Exhibitors shall not be penalised for touching or moving a pony or horse’s leg with their hands.

Emphasis shall be placed on type, conformation, action, substance, quality and manners. As the Appaloosa Horse Breeders Society of South Africa represents a breed with a colour preference, a coloured pony or horse will take preference over a solid pony or horse in the case of a tie for placings. Transmissible weakness and / or unsoundness shall be counted strongly against animals, such as impaired vision, parrot mouth, ringbone, spavin, thoroughpins, curb, and bowed tendon.

If such unsoundness or weakness impairs or affects a pony or horses use. The Appaloosa breed section will be divided into the following classes: (Which will mean each class will be run for each breed section – i.e…) 1: Fillies 12 months and under will become: Appaloosa Pony Fillies 12 months and under Appaloosa Horse Fillies 12 months and under Appaloosa Sport Horse Fillies 12 months and under 2.

Colts, 12 months and under 3.

Fillies, 1 year and over but under 2 years 4.

Suggested: ie Appaloosa Ponies registration number will read AP……….BS, Appaloosa Horses AHB or AHC……….BS or Appaloosa Sport Horses AS……….BS The Non-Appaloosa section will be divided into the following classes: Suggested: Stallions, any age, to breed Appaloosa Ponies under 14.3hh (149.5cm) Mares any age, to breed Appaloosa Ponies under 14.3hh. (149.5cm) Stallion any age, to breed Appaloosa Horses over 14hh (142cm ) Mares any age, to breed Appaloosa horses over 14hh (142cm ) Stallions any age, to breed Appaloosa Sport Horses Mares any age, to breed Appaloosa Sport horses GROUP CLASSES Ponies and Horses shall enter the ring in a clockwise direction at the walk.

Champion colt and Reserve -Automatic Championship for winners of colt foal class under 12 months. 3.

Junior female Champion and Reserve – Open to and compulsory for winners of female classes 1 year and over but under 4 years. 4.

Junior male Champion and Reserve – Open to and compulsory for winners of male classes 1 year and over but under 4 years. 5.

Senior female Champion and Reserve – Open to and compulsory for winners of female classes 4 years old and over. 6.

Senior male Champion and Reserve – Open to and compulsory for winners of male classes 4 years old and over. 7.

Champion gelding and Reserve – Open to and compulsory for winners of gelding classes. 8.

Futurity champion and Reserve – Open to the female and male futurity winners. 9.

Supreme Champion female of the show and Reserve – Open to and compulsory for all female champions over 1 year. 10.

Supreme Champion male of the show and Reserve – Open to and compulsory for all colt and stallion champions over 1 year. 11.

Where due to insufficient entries there is only an Automatic Champion and therefore the relevant Supreme Championship isn’t held (there must be at least 2 x champions to compete for a Supreme Championship) it will be at the AHBSSA appointed judges discretion to send that champion forward to an All Breed Supreme Championship to represent our breed.
