Still Knackered Also after your 1st 100, 120 or 160 if you have progressed that far ? Even more still Knackered (120) but really stoked for the horse and its owner. what are your goals for the current season ? (distance, level, qualifying at particular ride venue) Completing the 160km at the Nationals What preferences do you have for your saddle/s ? The saddle must fit the horse and this needs to be checked regularly as the horse changes shape with increasing fitness.
My comfort is secondary to the fit on the horse.
I go for fit over brand! What preference for saddle blankets and other gear ? (bridle or hackamore, do you use a crupper or breastplate etc ?) I like to use the Supracor saddle blanket because is compensates of minor fit imperfections, especially as I have been riding horses for other people.
I always use a breastplate not only for stability with hill work but also it is good to hang things off and a tie down can be added if needed.
Any other gear I use as dictated by the horses shape.
When Fox was young and shaped like a barrel found that a crupper was necessary but as she matured and developed a wither I could dispense with it.
Hackamore or Bridle again depends on the individual. Is your horse competed barefoot or shod ? (and maybe some points why you prefer either one) I have tried both, again like the gear, it depends on the horse and what best suits its needs.
I have no hard and fast rules about these things, as each horse is individual I do or use what is best suited to that animal. Where would you like to progress to in the sport ? I am unsure at this time.
I think I would like to carry on with developing skills for the longer distances.
However, all the new rules and regulations are somewhat unsettling and make goal setting difficult. Questions for Strapper Profiles When did you first become involved in Endurance and where ? As above What sparked your interest ? As Above How did you find out about endurance ? As above
