Horseless Carriage Mobile Tack Shop 1245 Sidesaddle Court Ellicott City, MD, 21043 1-800-347-TACK (8225) Charline Touchard, Stephanie Shandruk Septemer 2nd, 2008 — 1.0 Summary Horseless Carriage mobile tack shop is an equine-supply store with a twist—we go to the customer, instead of the customer coming to us.
As our name suggests our focus is to provide equestrian supplies to the barn owners and riders of the greater Baltimore region. We are taking a different approach from the other tack stores in the region in that we go to the customer, providing unparalleled convenience.
Our product line will cover the “everyday essentials” of horse ownership; eg bridles, blankets, supplements, grooming supplies, etc.
In addition, special orders and services such as custom saddle fitting are available on request. We are the first business of our kind in the region.
The Maryland horse industry is sizable, with assets totaling more than $5.2 billion, and employing 20,000 people.
As such, there is a definite need for a mobile tack shop, given the number of lesson barns, breeding operations, Thoroughbred racing barns, and backyard horse owners.
Maryland is also home to two racetracks (Laurel and Pimlico), which will be an added source of commercial revenue.
The racing industry itself is declining in Maryland, but the number of lesson barns and other small businesses has increased by at least 20% since 2002.
The industry is projected to expand by another 10% in the next 3-5 years, with the burgeoning “backyard horse” population contributing to this particular phenomenon. Horseless Carriage will be located at 1245 Sidesaddle Court in Ellicott City, MD.
Ellicott City is located in Howard County, MD, directly between Baltimore and Washington, DC.
The bulk of the business will be conducted via our mobile units, with a percentage of revenue coming in via phone sales and internet.
In addition to conducting business in Howard County, the company will service parts of Baltimore and Anne Arundel County, with plans to expand into Montgomery, Frederick, and Carroll County. 1.1 Objectives A.
To supply the equestrians of Howard County with a convenient alternative to running to the tack shop every time they need basic supplies. B.
To capture at least a 40% market share, and become the first name local equestrians think of when they hear the words “tack shop”. C.
To receive a 50% profit margin within the first year. D.
To have a customer base of 1,000 by the end of the first operating year. E.
To achieve a net profit of $75,000 by year two and $100,000 by year three. F.
To be an active and vocal member in the community supporting agricultural events, and equestrian organizations working with children, abused horses, and disadvantaged individuals. — In order to succeed in the equestrian supply industry Horseless Carriage must: –Carry an assortment of “essentials” for horse owners while meeting the limited space requirements of the fleet vehicles. –Provide patrons with unparalleled customer service and professionalism while out in the field. –Advertise in local community gathering spots so that our target customer base will learn about our service. –Continuously review our inventory and sales and adjust our inventory levels accordingly. 2.0 Company Summary Horseless Carriage is organized as a partnership among the two partners of Charline M.
