Stallions and colts are NOT eligible.
The horse must pass inspection by a Society Inspector.
The horse may be inspected at any age, after it has been CLEARLY BRANDED with a stock brand, identification number and foaling season year number.
The Society Inspector will consider the horse for ASH type, conformation, movement, colour, height, temperament, overall appearance and the like for acceptance or otherwise.
First Cross ASH progeny may result from the following breeding programmes: STUD BOOK AUSTRALIAN STOCK HORSE STALLION – SIRE REGISTERED mated to an unregistered or non Australian Stock Horse mare STUD BOOK AUSTRALIAN STOCK HORSE MARE mated to an unregistered or non Australian Stock Horse stallion FIRST CROSS AUSTRALIAN STOCK HORSE STALLION – SIRE REGISTERED mated to a First or Second Cross Australian Stock Horse mare FIRST or SECOND CROSS AUSTRALIAN STOCK HORSE MARE mated to a Sire Registered, First Cross Australian Stock Horse stallion Registration is limited to FINANCIAL MEMBERS of the Society.
If you are not already a member, you may download a Membership Application from the Forms page on the Society’s website.
Membership fees are $155.00 for adults and $70.00 for youth under 18 years (per calendar year).
Your membership application may be submitted with the horse’s registration.
In relation to the horse, complete an APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION.
This form may be downloaded from the Horses page on the Society’s website.
If the dam is ASH Registered, the Breeder’s Declaration or a Transfer Application must be signed by the registered owner of the dam (at time of foaling) to confirm the foaling records.
PROOF OF SERVICE is required and parentage is unable to be accepted as unknown, unless approved by the Board.
Proof of service is as follows: NATURAL SERVICE – one of the following options is essential: Superior Pedigree Assurance – DNA Testing and Sire Verification where no signed documentation is required from the Stallion Owner.
This is the most accurate method of Proof of Service as it compares the progeny’s DNA with the alleged sire’s DNA.
Submit the Application for Registration with payment of the registration and DNA fees.
A kit will then be issued by the Society for collection of a hair sample by the owner.
DNA Testing fee is $86.00. Standard Pedigree Notification – ASH Breeding Certificate signed by the owner of the stallion at time of service.
The Society is unable to identify whether or not a progeny identification or parentage inconsistency exists in relation to this Proof of Service option.
The original yellow or white copy of the ASH Breeding Certificate must be attached to the Application for Registration when lodged with the Society.
It is an agreement between the stallion and mare owner as to who purchases the certificates cost $15.00 per certificate. Alternative Pedigree Notification – Photocopy of Certificate of Registration or Online Stud Book Details with another Breed Society or Association where DNA or service records was supplied for registration purposes.
A Service Lodgement fee will apply – $25.00.
DNA TESTING is compulsory for ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION (sire verification – sire only) and EMBRYO TRANSFERS (parentage verification – sire and dam).
No signed documentation is required from the Stallion or Semen Owner.
DNA Testing fee is $86.00.
After the Application for Registration is completed, arrange the HORSE’S INSPECTION as follows: Members are able to contact Society Inspectors to arrange a mutually acceptable time and place to carry out the inspection, ie, inspector’s or horse owner’s residence, local event and the like.
The Society Inspectors are listed on the HORSES page of the Society’s website – name, location and contact telephone numbers.
The Inspection Report is included on the Application for Registration.
Recommended inspection fee $25.00 per horse, plus 74c per kilometre travelled. Alternatively, if the inspector is not available or resides outside your area; a video or DVD can be submitted with the Application for Registration for inspection purposes – $15.00 video/DVD inspection fee.

When everything has been completed, submit the application to the Society with your payment.
REGISTRATION FEES are as follows: Mares and Fillies ……………………………….. $192.00 Geldings …………………………………………… $131.00 If Proof of Service is not attached to the Application for Registration, a DNA fee of $86.00 will apply.
All horses accepted for First Cross registration will have FULL COMPETITION RIGHTS, providing the owner remains a financial member of the Society.
First Cross mares must be mated to Sire Registered ASH stallions owned by financial members for progeny to be eligible for ASH registration.
